This month’s selection:
The Water Cure
by Percival Everett
Publisher: Graywolf Press
ISBN: 1555974767
Price: $14.96
About the book
The Water Cure is the chilling confession of a victim turned villain.
Ishmael Kidder is a successful romance novelist. His agent is coming
to visit her usually productive client. But Kidder’s eleven-year-old
daughter has been brutally murdered, and it stands to reason that
he must take revenge by any means necessary. The punishment is carried
out without guilt, and with the usual equipment—duct tape, rope,
and super glue. But how will he explain the noises in the basement
to his agent? How does he know he has the right man?

LITERATENUBIAN GUIDELINES FOR BOOK CLUBS
Thinking about joining or starting a book club?
The best place to start your research is your local library and bookstore. Most
libraries offer advice and guides on book clubs. Most bookstores are becoming
known for their book club activities.
To join an existing book club or start one at your local library, do the followings:
Libraries tend to operate their own monthly book club. Go down to your local
library and speak to the events coordinator. He/she should be able to provide
you with information on how to join the club; the club’s reading list,
monthly schedule and time.
Most libraries, depending on size and stock, do offer free space and books
to book club members. The events coordinator at your local branch should be
able to provide you with information and guide on how to start your very own
book club.
To join an existing book club or start one at your local bookstore, do the following:
Depending on space, some bookstores do host in-store monthly book club. Contact
the owner or manager at your local bookstore and inform him/her about your plans
to either join or start your own book club. He/she should be able to provide
you with information and guide.
Do you want to start a book club at your home?
This type of book club is not unusual at all—actually, it’s the
oldest form. To start one, think about the followings:
- Finding a friend or friends that enjoy reading as much as you do.
- Putting together or agreeing on a reading list.
- What genre of books is going to be discussed, fiction or nonfiction?
- Is it going to be a fortnightly or monthly book club?
- Is the book club meeting only going to take place at your home
or is each member going to take turns hosting it?
Tips
- Keep the group small, 2 – 10 members should be okay.
- It helps if you pick members that live in the same or close neighborhood
as yourself.
- Some book clubs tend to include both fiction and nonfiction on their
list.
- Pick books for the entire year at the beginning of each year;
this will give every member enough time to read and prepare for
each meeting.
- Since the early 90s, some publishers have been including reading guides
at the back of the books they published. They also offer these guides on their
sites.
- Most Bookstores offer big discounts for book clubs on bulk purchases
- Most book clubs tend to take turns hosting their fortnightly/monthly book
discussion at different member’s house. They even cook or
offer snacks and drinks.
- Most book clubs host their discussions once a month.
- Some clubs host their book discussions at restaurants.
